Malcolm Barker update

After a mild winter in 2023/24 MBL, along with many other clear water venues, had an explosion of weed growth. Great for the fish but not so good for fishing. This is being worked on and summer 2025 is likely to see a professional weed cutting to get this under control - more info to follow on this.

We have also been doing a lot of work around the lake including some major bank reinforcing between pegs 2 and 3. A big thank you to the DofE volunteers who have been helping over the last year or so with this: Matt Reader, Dylan Sanders, Harrison Pickard and Leo Ranade. Now that the back breaking hard landscaping work is in hand we can devote a bit more time to things like improving the planting to encourage wildlife.

The new Memorial Garden is also looking in great shape and there will be a few more benches popping up around the lake as soon as we build them.

The fishing has been challenging this year with feasts one day and famine the next. Do keep giving us feedback on how your sessions go so we can keep an eye on things especially on catches of silver fish which we have been stocking over the last couple of years.
