Phil's day Hi to all, the Weds club fished its interclub match against Abbey Cross at Taylor's Lake (Top Lake). The weather was good a very mild day for the start of February so I had high hopes for the day. I drew peg 31 not a good draw in winter but it is what it is. Made up two lines on the pole and picked out a spot for the feeder. I fed crumb and maggot on one line for small silvers and a small amount of groundbait and pellet for the F1s (carp). Well that's where my day started and finished did not get a bite of any description on any method so I added another blank to my list making 3 now. It was hard all round but most caught on the favoured pegs. Congrats to Abbey Cross on a good win, 1st place Martin Adams with 18lbs 12oz, 2nd Kenny Farrell with 7lbs 15oz, 3rd Barry Cornel with 5lbs 15oz, 4th Alan Sims with 5lbs 12oz and 5th was Terry Moranda with 5lbs 10oz. Phil's day Good morning to all, the Weds angling club fished the Backwater at Pig Lane it was our 4th round of the winter league. I decided to put all pegs in barring two to see what parts fished the best. I drew peg 13 not one of my favourite pegs but I had a game plan and I was going to stick to it. I made three lines: one far over by the barge; one about 6 meters out; and the last one down the inside. There was no flow on the water and no colour to speak of. Made a chopped worm line and a bread punch line and red maggots down the inside line. Well that's as far as the plan went after hooking pike from all lines - only landed two and they don't count but between pike attacks I managed a few decent roach on maggot and quite a few very small fish on bread. I ended the day weighing in 2lbs 2oz for 1st place and max points. Gary's day It was a cold and very foggy set off from B/S but thankfully the weather got much better - yes that is the sun in today's photo. A cold start with some ice on the big lake but the small lake we were on was clear. I was on peg 6 (it was peg 8 when I was on it for the Xmas match) in the middle today and started very carefully on bomb and bread whilst I let the other swims settle after feeding a few maggots. This snared me a couple of early carp and things were looking good - time to try the long pole. John over at the other end then started catching as did a few others so it looked like it could be anyone's today. At the halfway mark John was still catching but thankfully so was I - it was a case of getting 1 carp and then needing to try another swim or a different bait for the next one whilst trying to avoid the small roach. It was good to be getting bites even from the small roach after a biteless afternoon on MBL last weekend. Towards the end of the match a few more fish started coming out with most of us getting a late carp or two. Phil's day Hi all, the Weds club fished our club lake at Beggars Hall. The turnout was a little down due to illnesses and weather, it was a heavy frost that morning but with the promises of better day ahead. I drew peg 19, not a bad peg and a few wins have come from there over the year and the bonus is I was going to be in the sunshine all day. I didn't take a pole with me as my plan was feeder fish all day. I picked out a couple areas I liked and concentrated on those. My main bait was maggot and pellet. With a very small maggot feeder and double red maggot on the hook my idea being that everything that swims in that lake likes a maggot. It took quite a while to get my first take probably a liner but soon after that got a proper bite and played it for sometime before it slipped the hook in weed - blast. Peter next to me then had a carp so pressure was on me now. It was another hour before my next proper bite - a carp of 4lb or so - then my next bite came half an hour before the end of the match. This was a very good fish and took a lot of playing it to get it in - a double figure common. I ended up with two carp for 15lbs 3oz and joint 4th 1st was Terry Moranda peg 10 with an amazing 65lbs 5oz of carp, 2nd Peter Green with 22lbs 11oz (3 carp), 3rd Jeff Pearson with 16lbs 3oz (2 carp) and joint 4th was Barry Cornel and Phil Whitmill both with 15lbs 3oz - Barry had two smaller carp and a bream. Match cancelled 3 of us did have a go on MBL (after a try on the Backwater and only getting a few micro roach/dace) and it did not go well. Phil thinks he had 2 bites - and that was it. At least the weather was good - roll on spring and some fish feeding.

Phil's day Hi to everyone, the Weds club fished the Malcolm Barker Lake on the interclub match against Abbey Cross. It was a freezing cold day with a heavy frost that didn't clear all day in some parts of the lake. There were 16 anglers that took part - that's good considering the age group. I drew peg 15 it's a very good peg, not a winning peg, but a peg that most times is 3rd or 4th so confidence was high but didn't get a bite. I tried everything but nothing worked, the angler next to me had a lucky carp for 6lb 13oz and won the match that was the only bite he had. Stort Backstream 2nd January 2022 Our first match of the new year was fished on a backwater of the River Stort owned by the Bishops Stortford club. The backwater runs just behind our lakes at Taylor’s and has residential canal boats moored on the far bank for most of its length. On the day the backwater had reasonable flow, but was quite clear. Most people caught small roach on a variety of baits, plus there was a very good chub and a decent perch weighed in. First on the day was Jo Smith who included a 4lbs 13oz chub in her 5lbs 1oz winning weight, Bob Fox was 2nd with 3lbs 2ozs, and Willy Ramthor was 3rd with 1lbs 8ozs. Phil's day Hi to all and a very merry Christmas. We had our last club match of the year at Hall Farm club lake. It was a bitterly cold day (-2c to start) but we had a good turn out. We started our day with mince pies and sausage rolls and a couple of tipples of home made sloe gin - I would like to thank Peter and Jean Green and Marion and Tel for their rolls and David Jones for the lovely home made mince pies. The draw took place half hour later than usual and I drew peg 18. Can't say whether it was good or not because, on a day like this, it was going to be very hard anywhere. I made up 1 pole line with not much confidence and the feeder with light tackle and this was going to be my best hope. I tried the pole but soon gave up with that and onto the feeder - size 18 hook and 4lb hooklength with a single red maggot and a very small maggot feeder. After about a hour or so on the feeder I had a drop back and I didn't wait for a second pull and struck at it for my first carp about 4lb. Had a second about an hour later of 2lb then a third with a hour to go. With half an hour to go had a 4th one on but it slipped the hook - my words were blast or something like that. I ended up with 9lbs 9oz for 3rd place 1st Jeff Pearson with 12lbs 12oz, 2nd Terry Moranda with 12lbs 11oz, 3rd Phil Whitmill with 9lbs 9oz , 4th Steve Foster with 3oz and 5th and just out of the frame was Fred Hunt with 2oz the rest of the field blanked. Gary's day Today was the club Xmas match at Home Farm's small lake and it was back to winter with a healthy dose of fog after a very mild week. It was peg 9 for me today and, after a bit of initial confusion working out which peg was which as there are no numbers on the lake swims, I was pleased to see I was in the middle. After the last few outings with very few bites I made a careful start almost counting the micros into the pole pot not wanting to blow the peg before I got started. A couple of small roach on long pole and expander to start with saved the blank and then with a carp early on - if only a small one - today was looking good. Sadly there was no sudden rush of fish for me and it was a question of rotating lines to pick up a few roach with the occasional better fish and then a very rare carp. On the other side of the lake it was slowly developing into a 2 horse race between Steve and Jeff. Jeff declared at the start he was giving at an hour and then going home but was then strangely quiet as the match progressed - a sure sign he was bagging. It went down to the wire between Steve and Jeff. Tony opposite had a cracking carp over 10lb at the midway point and the lake then slowly started to come a bit more to life with a few carp deciding to feed near the end. To my left David was very quietly putting a few fish in the net. I ended up with just under 13lbs with a carp lost at the net in the dying minutes proving costly in my battle with David but I had a good day out with plenty of bites - even if the wrong size fish. Many thanks to Tony for arranging the match and also a thank you to the Home Farm owners - the mid-morning hot mince pies and sausage rolls were a great morale booster as the cold started to bite. Today's results 1st Steve Foster 25lbs 12oz, 2nd Jeff Pearson 21lbs 10oz, 3rd David Jones 17lbs 15oz and 4th Gary Pickard 12lbs 14oz. Phil's day Hi all, the Weds club fished the Backwater of the River Stort in round 3 of our winter league. It was a good turn out and it was mild and dry. I drew peg 1 and must admit to being a little glum as pegs 1 and 2 have not produced any weights over the last 3 years that's how long they have been bad pegs but, as I have said before, you just got to get on with it. Made 3 pole lines up: 1 over by the barge; 1 down the middle track; and 1 by another barge by my right hand side. I started off down the middle of the track with bread punch and a little breadcrumb - this produced half decent fish straight away so rule of thumb says stay with it 'til it fishes out. By midday it had dried up so on to maggot over by the barge across from me and got a few small ones from there and then tried down by the barge on my right side but didn't get a bite. Back down the middle for a few more small fish - roach and dace - and I ended my day with 3lbs 1oz for 3rd place. 1st place with a very large bag of perch and nothing else was Steve Foster with 9lbs 2oz, 2nd Fred Hunt with a mixed bag of fish for 4lbs 15oz, 3rd Phil Whitmill with 3lbs 1oz and 4th Jeff Pearson with 2lbs 9oz. Gary's day After a cold week Sunday was a lovely mild day so we all had high hopes of a few fish feeding - especially after the last match at Hall Farm. Well the weights were much improved on paper but it was still a rock hard day. I was pretty happy with drawing peg 4. The colour had dropped out of the water, I could see the bottom 3-4 ft down, but the winds of the last few weeks had finally died down so I could fish a long pole to put some distance between me and the fish (well that was the theory). I even set up a waggler in case I needed to get out a bit further. After 2 hours on the feeder (maggot, cage and method - I tried them all) without a sign memories of the last Hall Farm match came to mind. By this time Phil had had a couple of carp and a perch on peg 12 so we knew some fish were feeding - just not anywhere but peg 12 at that stage. After an hour on pole and waggler without a sign things were getting desperate - even the micro perch were not feeding. Then, about 3 hours in, Peter on peg 2 had 2 carp in quick succession and I thought the fish might finally be switching on. An hour later and with no signs on the pole I decided to sit it out on the feeder and bomb to the end and, at just before 2:30, I had my one and only bite and very carefully played a 3lb F1. 1st Phil Whitmill 17lbs, 2nd Peter Green 8lbs 2oz and 3rd Gary Pickard 3lbs 4oz. Phil's day Hi all , the Weds club fished our club lake at Malcolm Barker. With a frost and gusting conditions we knew it was going to be hard. I drew down the windy part of the lake peg 10 much to the dismay of Fred as it's his favourite peg. I made two lines for the pole and picked out a spot for the feeder. Started off poting in a little maggot and hemp with a small amount of micro pellet. My rigs were 2grm floats with 0.10 =2lbs hook lengths size 20 match hook and a 18 match hook. Started off on the feeder for 30 mins to let the feed work but I didn't get any indications on the feeder so onto my pole lines. Started off on single red maggot on my 20 hook - fished for a couple hours and nothing. It was very hard to get any sort of presentation but perseverance pays off. Switched over to two pinkies and at 1 pm got my first roach of about 1oz. My first thoughts were I have saved a blank; went on fishing with pinkies for the rest of the match and weighed in with 1lb 4oz biggest roach was 5oz not too bad. 1st place with 2lbs Terry Moranda, 2nd Phil Whitmill with 1lb 4oz and 3rd Peter Green with 12oz

Phil's day Good morning to all, the Weds club fished the interclub match against Abbey Cross on their part of the River Stort. I drew peg 10 not knowing whether it's a good or bad peg - I got to the peg and, if I had to choose a peg, that would have been one of them. Made two tops up: one for punch bread; and one for mags and worm for perch. Well that's how it started and that's where it finished. There were 17 anglers and 17 blanks. Apart from the biting north east wind it was a sunny day and dry to boot. The pic is my peg for the day and was glad to give it back at the end.

As well as covering parts of the north in snow it looks like Storm Erwen did not go down well with the fish in Hall Farm. It was a cold and rock hard day with bites few and far between with the only fish feeding a few small perch. Knowing how hard it was fishing everyone stuck it out to the end hoping for a last minute F1 which sadly did not show up. Phil's day Good morning to you, the Weds club match was fished at Beggars Hall, wasn't looking forward to it what with the freezing temperatures lately it was going to be rock hard. I drew peg 7, not a bad peg. I made up a light feeder in the hopes that if I was lucky enough to get a carp it wasn't going to put up much of a fight. I cast to the island in front of me at about 40ish yards on a small maggot feeder with double red maggots as hook bait thinking if carp don't want it the silvers might. As expected it was a hard day - sat there for 3 hours not a touch so as it got colder I made myself a cup of soup and was just reaching for the flask and the tip went hard round got my first carp and a goodish one to boot. Cast back to the same spot and 10 mins later it went round again this time its a foul hooked fish caught in the tail and just before the landing net it come off bugger! or words to that effect. Caught 1 small roach for my days fishing and weighed in with 8lbs 5oz for 5th place. 1st place went to Stephen Foster with 45lbs 10oz, 2nd Ray Gibson with 36lbs 9oz, 3rd John Todd with 32lbs 14oz and 4th Jeff Pearson with 16lbs well done to all on a very cold day, pic is my peg 7.

After a cold week we had a few brave the weather at Little Walden's Home Farm Fishing the small lake it was a slow start for most but the carp and a few silvers finally showed up - typical winter fishing of having faith that they will arrive. Amongst the carp being caught Phil also had a nice perch of 1lb 6oz 1st John Todd 25lbs 15oz, 2nd Phil Whitmill 15lbs 9oz and 3rd Peter Green 18lbs

Phil's day Good day to all, the Weds club fished its pairs match at Hall Farm it was a delayed match because we had a Covid case a few weeks ago. We had 6 pairs enter and we did one bank against the other. I myself, being the odd number, had a pleasure day away from the other anglers. The lake fished hard for most although there were some good weights as you will see but that's winter fishing. I sat down on peg 13, not known as a good peg, and fished with two rods - a wag and mag rod for silvers and a feeder rod for carp. Had my first fish a carp within the first hour about the 3lbs mark and every hour after that produced a carp of same size. The wag was used for across to some rushes and produced about 6lbs of silvers - all in all a good day. Match results are 1st Gary Pickard and Tony Parker with 22 points, 2nd Jeff Pearson and Peter Green with 18 points, joint 3rd Fred Hunt and Dave Fuller and Ray Gibson and Tony Cruci with 16 points. It was a full turnout with both clubs fielding 10 a piece at Southend Farm. The venue was out of sorts with a match the day before maybe not helping. With the fishing being harder than usual it was question of ticking over with the silvers or gambling for some of the big carp to feed. Phil's day Hi all, the Weds club held its 2nd round of our winter league at Malcolm Barker. I drew peg 18, it's in an area that's not brilliant but that's the luck of the draw for some. Weather wise it's very mild but drizzlng with rain so got set up in the wet and stayed like that for some time. I made up 3 lines with different lines and hook size to get the best from my swim. Started off at 12 meters of pole but nothing then onto my 8 meter line - still nothing so 14 meters was all that was open to me on a 18 match hook and 2lb line with a double pinkie. Had my first bite a very small roach. This carried on for the rest of my day to weigh in with 1lb 3oz. 1st Tony Cruci with 2 carp for 28lbs 1oz, 2nd Peter Green with 12lbs he also had a very handsome carp of about 10lbs, 3rd Fred Hunt with 10lbs 6oz with 1 carp of about 6lbs and 4th Jeff Pearson 7lbs 15oz of mixed silvers

Gary's day The cold days of the week clearly had people preferring to stay warm in bed this Sunday. After the struggle many had had at Beggars Hall in the mid-week Inter-club match it was going to be hit and miss as to whether the F1s fed. The smaller turnout did though give everyone a bit of room. The BBC's forecast of moderate wind was a little optimistic and it was a struggle to fish more than a top 4 for most of us. I drew peg 6 and was quite happy with this being around the middle of the lake. Not knowing how it would fish I set up a couple of pole rigs and a feeder rod. The pole was a waste of time as the wind was too gusty to get reasonable presentation despite a few goes so that left the feeder. It was a steady day swapping between a cage and maggot feeder searching around the peg for the fish with the F1s showing willingness to feed. I even managed a small skimmer - but just the one. Hall Farm fished well though and everyone had a few bites with the deeper half of the lake towards the M11 perhaps fishing a little better than the shallower car park end that are the favoured pegs. 1st Gary Pickard 54lbs 10oz, 2nd David Jones 24lbs 5oz and 3rd Phil Whitmill 20lbs 14oz

Phil's day Morning to all, the Weds club fished the interclub match at our lake at Beggars Hall. It was always going to be a hard day as the lake has not fished well for most of this year and particularly as we have had three really hard frost this week. I drew peg 16 not a good peg but that's the nature of the draw. I made up 3 lines for the pole with lighter rigs to give myself as much chance as possible; did one at 12 meters and two for 5 meters and my feeder was going to be my main line halfway to the island. I started off on the feeder with pellet and method feeder fished this for a hour but nothing. Not to concerned as this is a very slow lake and later in the day is when it can happen. Next to try was the pole at 10 meters to try and pick up some roach or perch. Didn't get a bite, not even a indication, so on to my closer lines. Still nothing, so back onto the feeder. Tried a bit closer to the island and after 2 or 3 casts I had a small pull round for a mirror carp of 13oz and that was my day till I started to pack away in readiness to do the weigh in. I had a little perch of half an oz the only thing biting properly in my peg was me having my lunch. My total for weighing in was 13oz and that gave me 6th place and valued points. 1st was Ray Gibson with 19lbs 13oz, 2nd Alan Sims with 19lbs 11oz, 3rd Fred Hunt with 6lbs 7oz and 4th Terry Moranda with 5lbs 10oz. This gave Bishop's Stortford a good win 47 points to Abbey Cross 64 points

Phil's day Hi all, I did the Weds match at Hall Farm club lake. I had my doubts that it was going to fish as we had a lot of heavy rain overnight. I drew peg 4 which is a reasonable peg and with a bonus added it was every other peg in so empty pegs either side. I made up 3 pole rigs and a feeder the pole lines was at 10 meters and both margins this where I would do my best from. Cupped in some pellet and mags and fished on the hook soft pellet. Not had a bite so onto maggots started getting perch and rudd but little else. Then the sky's opened up with a massive hail and rain storm so put the pole down and did a small cast with the feeder. The rod went round and got a carp of about 2lbs. After an hour the storm passed over and back on the pole but still only small silvers - ended my day with 6lbs 15oz for 7th place. 1st was Jeff Pearson with 27lbs 12oz, 2nd Terry Moranda with 20lbs 9oz, 3rd Ray Gibson with 18lbs 4oz and 4th Tony Cruci with 15lbs 14oz. Gary's day The small lake at Home Farm was today's venue with a bit of a chill in the air to start with. It was another new venue for me - I seem to be having a run of these - and a bit of a mystery. Mention of Home Farm in Rib Valley tackle brought a mention of lots of small carp - I think the info might have been a bit old - the carp have grown! Fred got off to a flying start and did not look back as the rest of us struggled to catch up. I started on the long pole but it soon became clear the roach I was catching on 4mms were never going to compete. It was a lake of 2 halves with the far reed lined swims having steady start from the off whilst those of us on the caravan park side had a much slower start. It was a frustrating day even having me drag out a method feeder rod midway through - it didn't work. I had a final flurry of carp late on as the odd one cruised through just within range to end up with 6 and a few roach for 28lbs - not quite the 1 or 2 pounders I was expecting. Fred and Mark ended up a clear top 2 but it was incredibly close for the last 2 framing places. Phil's day The Weds club fished its first of the winter league matches at the Malcolm Barker Lake, I drew peg 28. Used to be a good peg but of late not produced any weights. The good thing is its only 30 meters from the car park. Got to my peg and decided within a few minutes how I was going to fish. Made 2 pole rigs; one very light lines and hook and the other with medium to heavy line and hook for a carp or two and a float rod in prep for pinging out mags. Started off on the wag float but it's a lot of work with no result stuck with it for nearly 20 mins then up the bank it went and I left it there for the rest of the day. Went on to my lightweight pole rig and fished out at 8 secs of pole feeding small amounts of groundbait and a bit of corn mixed with hemp and maggots. It had taken a hour to get a few very small roach and rudd but I carried on with the same line. By midday I got my first decent fish, a tench of about 1 1/2lb then picked up a couple of perch then back to roach and rudd but couldn't keep them coming. Then out the blue got another tench this one about 3lbs. It was touch and go to land it as I was on very light elastic but in the net it went. Back to catching small stuff again and not in any great numbers. Got to about 3pm and presto another tench this as was good as the last one and put up equal fight to the last, match ended at 3.30. I weighed in with 8lbs 2oz and came 1st, 2nd was Barry Cornel 8lbs 1oz, 3rd Fred Hunt with 4lbs 12oz and 4th Terry Moranda with 4lbs 11oz.

With the match against Sawbridgeworth being cancelled a few of the match regulars decided to hold a scratch match at Hall Farm. It was a slow start for most until the fog lifted and the sun came out. Phil's day Hi all, well it's been a month since our last interclub with Abbey Cross with this one being on Taylor's. We knew it was going to be hard what with the cold rain and all. I drew peg 50 not a good area but that's the luck of the draw. Got to my peg and decided that two pole lines were called for; one at 14 meters to the pads and one at 8 meters this one was for silver fish and the other with heavy line and bigger hook size for the carp. Started off on the short line on maggots and pellet catching the odd roach and perch throughput the morning then over to my long line in the afternoon - this was none productive. I tried 4 and 6 mm pellet and corn then about 2ish I thought I needed a cup of tea, as I went to pick up the flask the pole bent round and my one opportunity broke my hooklength. I weighed in 1lb 9oz - it's a improvement on my last two matches, 1st Martin Adams with 10lbs 6oz, 2nd Barry Cornel with 10lbs 5oz, 3rd Peter Green 9lbs 9oz, 4th Tony Parker 8lbs 15oz and 5th Alan Sims 6lbs 15oz. Phil's day Hi all, fished the Weds match at Beggar's Hall. It started of weather wise a dry morning a bit cold but forecast was for a dry day shame it rained on and off most of the afternoon which made weighing in a bit grim. I drew peg 20 - not a bad peg. I had lily pads to my far left and open water in front so I made up two lines on to the pads and one to my mid-point then feeder in open water. I have struggled all day for a bite. I caught small roach and perch on the pole and not a bite on the feeder. It got to 3ish and had a carp on and it ran me straight into the pads and lost it - didn't get another bite on anything after that finished the day with 14oz. 1st place was David Jones with 24lbs 14oz , 2nd was Bob Fox with 15lbs 9oz, 3rd was Fred Hunt with 12lbs 2oz and 4th Jeff Pearson with 10lbs. Pic is my peg for the day. It was also the end to our Summer League joint first Terry Moranda and Jeff Pearson with 54 points each, 3rd was Fred Hunt with 53 points and 4th was David Jones with 45 points - well done to all. Gary's day Despite the fuel panic and Stansted Mountfichet being gridlocked with people queuing we had a good turn out. It was my first visit to Bordeaux Pits - think Beggars Hall but a bit smaller and thinner. I had heard plenty of rumours of the big carp in here but with them counting as 2lb it could be a funny day. I drew at the top end near the island where it is pretty narrow (I could get to the far back with 13ms) and shallow (about 3ft). I had a slow start catching micro roach but at least something was in the net. After an hour or so a few small skimmers turned up and I thought I had cracked it but they soon disappeared leaving me scratching around for a final tally of 3lb 14oz and a place in the middle of the pack. Sadly the silvers did not play ball and BS were given a lesson in how to fish Bordeaux Pits by SW. Many thanks to SW for being great hosts. Photo is my peg for the day.

Phil's day Good morning to all, I fished the Weds club match at Hall Farm club lake. It was going to be a nice day weather wise so it's going to be all down to the draw. I drew peg 12 on the low bank so already pleased with that, its a short walk from the car so can't be bad. Fed just two lines; one on my right margin and one on my left margin and a pellet waggler for open water and, of course, a feeder. I fed pellet and corn to my left and pellet and red maggots to my right. After 2 hours with not a bite I got up and had a chat with Barry on the next peg down to see if he was as bad off as I was. He had got a couple of carp and had been broke up on a third so it was just me then. Back to my peg after the brief chat went and back on my right margin and got two carp instant so hope yet. Moved on further down the margin and picked off 4 more then nothing so moved further down still and picked off a few more all the while they are backing further away. I finally ran out of pole sections and stayed with that - weighed in 48lbs 9oz for a tight 1st place and a golden peg win. 1st Phil Whitmill with 48lbs 9oz, 2nd Bill Beeston with 46lbs, 3rd Jeff Pearson with 39lbs 4oz and 4th Tony Cruci with 36lbs 2oz

Phil's day Hi all, Weds club fished an interclub match against Safron Walden at Bordeux Pits. We were 2 to 1 down so needed a win today to draw. I drew peg 14 and having only fished this lake 3 times before I didn't know if I drew good or bad. I got to my peg and it looked quite reasonable with an island 15 meters over so a bit of scope in the peg so I thought. Started off feeding two lines; one at 10 meters with pellet and corn and one at 14 meters with micro pellet and red maggots. This proved the only productive spot - had a skimmer for 12 oz and the rest of the day had a few bits for a grand total of 1lb 8 oz. Thinking how bad it fished I assumed that everyone else had done a whole lot better - how wrong was I as the results show 1st John Todd with 6lbs 8oz, 2nd Roger Philips with 6lbs and half oz, 3rd Sam Robinson with 4lbs 2 oz, 4th Brian Newman with 3lbs 13oz and 5th was Mark Evens with 2lbs 15oz Saffron Walden won the day with 57 points to Bishop's Stortford's 74

Gary's day It was a cracking September day - probably not the best day for catching skimmers which can be a big help at MBL but it was nice to see some sun. Today's peg for me was no. 3 and I was near some lilies for a change - so I had hopes of a tench or two. The tench did not play ball for me despite a few goes although Tony had some fun with the carp in peg 2 (peg 2's reputation as a pole graveyard was maintained). I had a very busy day on the waggler catching small roach to end up with 8lbs - more than I thought. Jeff, a couple of pegs round the lake, had some much better quality silvers playing a more patient waiting game on casters - one to remember.

Note this was fished as an individual match - the pairs match has been moved Phil's day Hi all, the Weds club fished its club lake at Malcolm Barker. It was going to be a very hot and bright day not good for the MB Lake so I expected it to be slow. I drew peg 17 but did a change for peg 23 to allow for an old un - didn't do myself any favours as its a very open peg with little or no features. I made up two pole lines: one for the margins and one at 10 meters. Just a small amount of cupping in as I am fishing for roach and skimmers. Started off with my 10 meter line on corn and pellet with no effect so it boiled down to punch bread. After an hour I was picking up the odd skimmer of an oz range but always with the hope something a little bigger will come my way. I could see the anglers opposite me were catching so assume they were all doing well. I finally got my bonus fish at about 3pm a small tench of 1lb. I finally ended the match with 3lb 9oz 1st Jeff Pearson with 14lbs, 2nd Fred Hunt with 12lbs 8oz, 3rd Peter Green with 4lbs 11oz and 4th Phil Whitmill with 3lbs 9oz
