Phil's day Hi all, fished our second winter league match on Weds. It was held on the Malcolm Barker club lake. We had a good turn out considering the virus and the cold. I drew peg 6 not known as a good peg but that's the luck of the draw. I fished for silvers as this time of the year they are a good bet. Made up two pole lines one at 10 meters and one at 12 meters also made the feeder up just in case. Fished the pole most of the day with no sign of a bite by 2pm gave up on the pole and put it away. Cast the feeder towards some lily pads with a small cage feeder and double red maggot. 5 minutes later got a drop back so went for it and hooked a 3lb 11oz carp gone from zero to hero phew one bite one fish. 1st Peter Green with 5lbs 5oz, 2nd Phil Whitmill 3lbs 11oz, 3rd Terry Tucker with 2lbs 2oz and 4th Fred Hunt with 1lb 5oz well done to all on such a hard day

Phil's day Hi all, fished the Weds club match at Malcolm Barker Lake this week. The weather has to be one of the wettest days that I can remember for a long while. Drew peg 21 it was known as one of the best pegs but not this year where it has produced only average weights. Made up two pole lines with a feeder rod as backup: one rig at 8 meters and the other at 12 meters in case the fish back off which they are for on this lake. I fed both lines with small amounts of pellets and maggots not wanting to overdo it and kill the swim. Started to catch the odd roach and skimmer but they were small; but they were bites and, to be honest, knowing how hard it can be at Malcolm Barker I was grateful. Ended my day with a very wet 3lbs 13oz for 7th place. Well done to the framers 1st Terry Moranda 6lbs 10oz, 2nd Fred Hunt 6lbs 3oz, 3rd John Todd with 5lbs 9oz and 4th was Tony Cruci with 4lbs 12oz.

Phil's day Hi all, fished the Hall Farm club lake on Weds. The weather was very good and it looked like it was going to be a good day. I drew peg 5 it has been known to through up the odd win. I made up two lines 1 at 10 meters and 2 down both margins. Also made up the feeder just in case. I went on the feeder to start with while my bait worked on the pole lines. Fished for a hour but nothing so tried the pole still nothing so back on the feeder. Got my first carp by midday small but welcomed had 5 bites all day for 4 carp and lost one at the net. Weighed in 8lbs 3oz for 7th well done to the framers. 1st Ray Gibson with 53 lbs 4oz (knocked back to 50lbs as over net limit), 2nd Peter Green with 20lbs 5oz, 3rd Barry Cornel with 17lbs 5oz and 4th Terry Moranda with 15lbs 1oz.

Phil's day Hi all, the Weds club fished Beggars Hall. The weather was overcast with the chance of rain at anytime but turned out fine till the weigh in then it decided to rain - annoying but at least didn't fish under umbrellas all day. Drew peg 20 and wasn't too disappointed it has been a good peg in the past. I made up two lines one in the margin and one at 10 meters and the feeder for between the lily pads. Started off with a small roach and a few very small perch on my 10 meter line fishing maggots so changed baits and pretty much nothing worked. Put the pole down and onto the feeder and very much the same story. I knew the pegs to my right and left were doing as bad. At half two I finally had a small carp of 5lbs and by 3 pm got smashed up in the pads by another carp so ended the day with 5lbs 6oz and came nowhere 1st place was Ray Gibson with 40lbs 13oz, 2nd Tony Parker with 32lbs 12oz, 3rd was Terry Moranda with 23lbs 9oz and 4th with 18lbs Terry Tucker well done to all

Gary's day It was a sunny and warm day with a it of a breeze which made it feel a little bit cooler on peg 20, my home for the day, in the shade of the trees there. I had a very busy day on the long pole and waggler fishing maggot for a net of mostly roach and rudd with a couple of small skimmers thrown in for a bit of variety. At the scales my fish were a bit heavier than I guessed. 1st Gary Pickard 7lbs 4oz, 2nd Terry Tucker 5lbs 3oz and 3rd Mark Halverson 4lbs 5oz

Phil's day Morning all, fished the Weds match on the River Stort Backwater stretch. First job was to find 10 fishable pegs that were not weeded out - it was not easy but anyway managed it. Drew peg 6 - normally a good peg. Only 2 lines to choose from: one down the middle track; and over by the barge at 10 meters. I fed red mags by the barge and bread crumb with a small amount of maggot down the middle. Started on my punch and crumb line first as this is the favourite for most of my catch. Started picking off the odd roach throughout the rest of the day and, when it got slow, went over to the barge trying to pick off the odd perch. I managed one for about half a pound and a pike which doesn't count in our matches. I finished the day with 1lb 14oz for 2nd place 1st Tony Parker with 2lbs 9oz, 2nd Phil Whitmill 1lb 14oz and joint 3rd was Fred Hunt and Barry Cornel with 1lb 10oz each

Phil's day Hi all fished our first interclub match with Abbbey Cross on Weds. It was held at Beggers Hall club lake, with 16 entries we could leave out some of the bad pegs and the way it has been fishing I would not want a bad peg. I drew peg 1 not a good peg by any standards but your draw is what it is so made up 3 lines; 2 for either margin and out in front at 10 meters. Fed with a little corn and pellets long and the margin on red maggots and micro pellets. Started off with the feeder over to the weed beds and sat on it for an hour and was just about to quit when it rapped round for my first carp. It went about 6lbs so a good start. Fished the feeder for another hour or so with no indication of anything more being there so switched to my pole lines at 10 meters. Not a thing so on to my margin lines. Had a few perch but little else. Tried making a few adjustments but nothing so back on my 10 meter line and fished maggot and fed with the same. After a short while started to pick up a few roach of a reasonable size so carried on and put about 4lbs of them in the net. I weighed in with 10lbs and 6th place - shows how hard it was. 1st place was Tel Moranda with 41lbs 8oz, 2nd Terry Tucker 29 lbs 14oz, 3rd Jeff Pearson 16lbs 4oz, 4th Barry Cornel 11lbs 5oz and 5th Peter Green 10lbs 14oz. Bishop's Stortford won with 82 points to 51 points, well done to all on a very hard day

Phil's day Hi all, I fished the Weds club match, it was an interclub match with Saffron Walden on Bordeaux Pits. The Stortford team knew it was going to be hard but rough with the smooth. I drew peg 10 and didn't know what to expect so fished light looking for skimmers and roach. Made two lines up: 1 at 10 meters to my left with maggot and micro pellets; and 10 meters to my right with corn and pellets. Started off catching the odd roach on corn then a couple of small carp of 6oz each then nothing. Stayed with that line for another 15 mins and was just going to change to my maggot line when got done by a very large carp. It took out my elastic and all so put on another rig for bigger fish. Needless to say it was very hard to get bites. Not fed my margin at all but noticed some swirls at about 2 meters from my box so handful of red maggots and a handful of micro pellets and all hell broke loose. When I got it in I estimated at least 20 lbs common carp but unfortunately it only counts as 2lbs in these matches. I went on to catch 5 more carp average of 15lbs and lost 6 more. That got me 1st place with 14lbs 1oz, 2nd was Mark Evans with 10lbs 10oz, 3rd Fred Hunt with 8lbs 5oz and 4th was Sam Robinson with 7lbs 7oz. Saffron Walden won overall with 50 points to Bishop's Stortford's 55 points

Phil's day Hi to all, fished the Weds club match - what a hard day that was. It was held at the Malcolm Barker Lake. Had a few people drop out at the last minute but still managed 15 anglers. I drew peg 2 one of the hot pegs and to crown it I had one of the golden pegs. Made two lines up and fed corn and pellets with a little groundbait. After two hours all I could manage was the odd roach and skimmer tried maggots but the fish got smaller so back on corn. By midday I got my first and only tench and not much else. I weighed in with 2lb 2oz. 1st Fred Hunt with 9lbs 15oz , 2nd Peter Green with 7lbs 7oz, 3rd John Pretious with 5lbs 11oz and 4th Gary Pickard with 5lbs 8oz well done to the framers. Phil's day Hi all I fished the Weds club match at Malcolm Barker Lake yesterday. The weather was awful when loading the car with constant rain so was expecting a wet day. Got to the lake and the rain cleared away. I drew peg 23, not a bad peg. Set up 3 lines and fished corn and pellets on my 12 meter line with maggots to a set of lily pads and caster on my right margin next to a willow tree. As the day progressed I caught skimmers at 12 meters on maggot. That's all I could get a bite on. Weighed in with 4lbs and thanks for coming. 1st place was Terry Moranda with 16lbs 3oz, 2nd Tony Cruci with 13lbs 2oz, 3rd John Todd with 10lbs 15oz and 4th Jeff Pearson with 7lbs 14oz. Gary's day It was a warm but pretty windy day with the wind coming into my face on peg 4. It was a slow start with just a small perch in the first couple of hours before I finally managed a carp on the method feeder around the midway mark. That was it though on the feeder so back to the pole line a hoping some had shown up shorter. It was a long wait but then I had a run of 3 carp like peas in a pod in the last 15 minutes for 19lbs or so. 1st Terry Tucker 51lbs 14oz, 2nd Mark Halverson 35lbs 3oz and 3rd Jeff Pearson 28lbs 14oz

Phil's day Hi to all, fished the Weds club match at the Malcolm Barker Lake. The weather was a complete opposite to last Weds - we were baking in 90F (about 28C) with clear skies so we knew it was going to be hard. I made two lines up: one for the lily pads; and one at 12 meters. Started off on the pads with corn and pellet and picked off a few small roach. This didn't last long and I was fishing hard for a bite. Fed a bit of maggots and groundbait then left that and went on the 12 meters line. Not a thing, completely fishless so after 20 mins of that went back to the pads and started picking up skimmers of about 4 or so ozs. I stayed with that for the rest of the match. Results are 1st Jeff Pearson with 11lbs 8oz, 2nd Tony Parker 11lbs 4ozs, 3rd John Pretious 7lbs 2ozs and 4th Phil Whitmill 6lbs 8oz.
