Rob's day

At Beggar's Hall today for the final round of the Summer League. With the water still low making getting down the bank difficult especially on the high bank pegs, decided to just fish the low bank today. With 11 on the match this meant that most pegs would be in and a bit tight, but maybe fairer for the summer league.

Drew peg 7, not normally put in but has a cast to the island. Set up a feeder, a paste pole rig for 7 meters in around 5 foot and a couple of margin rigs although not really margins here, just inches amongst the roots sloping into the depths. No bankside features on this peg so didn’t look great. Started on the feeder by the island for no bites so an hour in tried the paste. A couple of minutes later the float buried and into a big fish. After plodding around for a few minutes the carp decided it had enough and went to visit Tony on peg 10. Something had to give and came back minus a hook. Next cast another bite and a surprise bream over 3lb. Didn’t have another bite on the paste.

Tried the tip again for nothing and also the margins where I had noticed one carp by my nets. Put the float by the carp and the inevitable happened, foul hooked and came back with a big scale. Didn’t see any more fish close in. Fred next door on 6 had been getting a lot of liners by the island and had a couple of decent carp, Tony Cruci on 10 also had a couple, couldn’t see anyone else apart from Phil on 12 who looked to be struggling. Back on the feeder for the last hour and had a couple of pulls to finish with a disappointing 15lb 9oz.

Jeff on peg 13 had a good day weighing 47lb 3oz but this was only good enough for fourth with some good weights coming from the early pegs. Steve was third with 62lb 10oz from peg 4, Bill Beeston second with 65lb from peg 3 and the winner today from unfancied peg 2 (not normally put in) was Tony Heath with a fine weight of 79lb 9oz. Goes to show maybe sometimes we should put some of the other pegs in not just the same ones (maybe not peg 7 though!) Photo today is a very happy Tony H.
