Rob's day
Hi All
We were at Hall Farm today for the 3rd leg of the Bishop Stortford/Saffron Walden interclub matches. Weather a bit different than has been recently – temperatures lower and a wind blowing into the car park bank. Definitely needed a draw in the shallower end today so no surprise when I pulled out my favourite peg again – 13. A bit despondent but you never know in fishing.
Started out on the feeder for half an hour then onto the pole 10m out on hard pellets. Had my one and only bite after an hour and landed a carp around 3lbs. No signs of any fish today either on the top of crashing out only fish I saw was during the weigh in – seemed to be a few coming in close on the lower numbered pegs near the car park.
Opposite me on peg 12 Peter Mottram had a few roach and rudd but no carp, Ray on 10 had landed 2 or 3 carp and saw Terry on 7 catch a couple, not sure how the rest of the lake had fished, but no doubt a few fish caught further up the lake.
Luckily as we had 10 anglers to Saffron Walden's 8, I could discount my 3lb. As it turned out Saffron Walden had the top 3 weights with Fred (apparently escaping from Hospital the previous day) topping the day with 64lbs from peg 26. After the week he has had we will let him have that. Second Brian Mizon – 39lbs from peg 4 and third Graham Carter peg 2 with 32lb. Despite that Bishop's Stortford had the better back up weights to take the match 73 points to 63.
Lower weights today overall – no doubt due to the weather and having 18 anglers descending on the venue.
Well done to the team and also thanks to Saffron Walden and Mark Evans for weighing in the high bank. BS take a 3 – 0 lead into the last match on SW waters in September.
