Gary's day
Today was a trip to Home Farm's small lake which was still very low at around half it's normal already shallow depth. Out of the bag was peg 6 for me today with the rest of us spread around the lake.
On plumbing up I had at best 2 foot of depth anywhere with inches along the edges. I started at about 10m on the pole with hard pellets. Rob on peg 5 also started long and was getting bites from the off. Half an hour in I had had one tentative bite I missed and Rob had good carp in the net. It was fishing hard.
By the midway point I was down to trying a small method feeder as I could not buy a bite anywhere. By now Phil over on peg 1 had a carp in the net after bumping one as had Darren. Tony seems to be the only person getting regular bites and was slowly putting a few carp together.
A nice roach after 4 hours was followed by nothing more long. It was going to be the margins or nothing it seemed. At this point I was well and truly lying in last. With just over an hour to go I saw a bit of mud kicked up to the left margin and a quick go found me a bite which I missed and a fish bow waved out of the margin. By feeding some corn and groundbait and being careful with rig placement I started to get a few signs and after bumping a carp finally had one in the net. Tony was still catching and Rob and Phil also had a couple more each. In a busy finish I ended up with 5 carp in the net and a couple bumped so it looked like it was going to be close for runner up spot.
Tony was today's run away winner with 45lbs but then it was only a small carp separating the next 3 of us with my 20lbs just beating Rob's 18lbs and Phil missing out with 17lbs. Photo today is Tony before the all in with Phil in the background.
