Rob's day

At Taylor's Lake today for another Inter Club match with Abbey Cross. Fishing the Top Lake as a large amount of the lilies were removed at the weekend. I drew peg 33 – a few pegs before where I fished last time, maybe not the best area but it looked ok – opposite the aerator. I was told (reliable sources) that this was a good feeder peg which didn’t help me as I had left the feeder rods at home!

Decided on fishing out in front at around 11 ½ meters and close in on the 2 ½ meter whip – the depths about the same at around 5 foot. Fed the long line and started on the whip – interrupted after a couple of minutes by Barry at the next peg landing a tench that apparently turned into an F1 at the end!

Catching quite well on the whip – small roach, perch and some rudd around 3-4 oz so kept on this a while. No signs on a couple of tries out long so back to the whip. Elsewhere a few fish coming out – Bill looked to have had a couple on peg 37, Alan Fox a good F1 opposite on 52 and a bit later on Fred had one on the feeder.

Another try half-way through on corn bought an instant bite and a 1 ½ pound skimmer but no more. The wind was swirling around at this point causing issues with pole presentation, it also started to rain which seemed to put the small fish off. Unable to get any more bites on the whip, finished the match out long but sadly just a couple of small fish on maggot before the whistle blew.

The lake fished better than recent matches with top weight going to Alan Sims with 21lb 12oz from peg 38, Bill Beeston second with 16lb 5oz (four F1s), Tony Parker 11lb 10oz third from peg 50 and Martin fourth from peg 9lb 3oz. Mine going 8lb 12oz to equal Jeff's weight.

Team wise an easy win for Abbey Cross today 46 points to 33 – thanks to Martin and Alan and Abbey Cross for hosting us today.
