Rob's day

At Taylor's today for another inter club match with Abbey Cross. Martin decided to have this match on the Car Park Lake as the Top Lake had produced poor results recently. Never fished this lake before so at least something different.

To make the numbers even we lent Abbey Bill and Graham, so 8 a side. I drew peg 5 on the car park bank. No islands or features to be seen although apparent a bar running across the centre of the lake. Set up a couple of pole rigs – 11 meters at 5 foot and closer in at around 7-8 foot. Fed some groundbait on both lines and started on maggots. The sun and the tree line making it almost impossible to see the float in front so fished to the right in the whitewater feeding maggots.

Three hours in not a sign on any line. Graham and Tony to my left also fishless, but over on the other bank opposite the island, Steve seemed to be getting a fish a cast - looked to be mainly small roach. A couple of hours left had my one and only bite – a one inch perch.

At the weigh in – looked like the small fish were shoaled by the island around pegs 28 and 29. Steve weighed an impressive 8lbs 15oz to easily win the match – on the next peg A Barker came second with 4lbs 8oz. Martin 3rd with 1lb 3oz from peg 27. Further down the lake Peter Green’s 1lb 4oz gave him 4th and Phil had 1lb 2oz for fifth. After that only ounces caught with my micro perch not registering on the scales so given 1oz. Team wise it was close with Abbey just taking the win 71 points to 68
