A roundup of how our waters have fished in 2021/2

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

Beggars Hall

This lake has again produced some fantastic fishing this year. Carp catches continue to be spectacular in the summer and several anglers have reported that they have had “their best day ever”! Matches on the lake have also produced some great weights with several winners bagging 70-80lb with the rest not too far behind. Roach up to a 1lb, bream to 5lb, perch to 4lb and tench to 4lb have also showed in good numbers. The cormorant situation seems to be less of a problem now as we have obtained a licence to control the numbers. Thanks to Matt Chandler for keeping a watchful eye on the water. PS - make sure you are suitably tackled up for the carp as they are now averaging around 7lb.

Malcom Barker Lake

Still a very popular venue for lots of our members who have been rewarded with some quality fish and good session catches. Tench, common carp and bream are the main species being caught with roach to 1lb+ and big crucian carp also making regular appearances. The cormorants are still in attendance but we have had a bird scarer (gas cannon) installed at the top end of the lake to try and deter them - to date it seems to be working. Unfortunately, since the middle of February '22, we have close the lake due to higher than usual fish deaths (see our other posts). We are working closely with the Environment Agency to try and determine what the possible cause might be. We will continue to inform members via email though the Clubmate system and also the website.

Small Lake (Stock Pond)

Fishing on this lake has again been very popular with all standards of anglers. The tench we introduced last year are making frequent appearances as are some of the bigger carp.

The Bishop's Stortford Scout Group enjoyed a summer evening’s fishing on the lake with everybody catching fish and left happy albeit a little wet!

Large Lake

Again we organised several charity matches including for the British Heart Foundation , club matches and a memorial match for anglers who have recently passed away - thanks to all who participated in raising funds for charities. We are hoping to run these matches again this year. Please look at the membership book and the website for dates. Catches continue to be excellent in both casual and matches and again a new record carp for the water weighing in at 16lb caught by 1 of our female junior anglers!
