What are those at MBL?

For those of you visiting MBL over the next few weeks you might see some orange sacks around the edges of the lake. These are filled with barley straw to hopefully prevent algae blooms as the weather warms up as these can be harmful to the lake especially as we head towards the time when fish start spawning and they are more susceptible to water quality issues.
Please do not remove them from the lake. If they seem to be getting in the way please let us know. Do feel free to pull them back towards the bank or stick them under the platforms if they get blown out of position (or moved by the geese).

Hi Gary,
I spotted the blue ropes and sacks while at MBL yesterday...a very odd day in that the water temperature was up and hatches of fly life clearly visible, and yet between 4 anglers on the lake it appeared to be a very quiet day catches-wise and very little fish activity or visible movement.
Even fishing a single red maggot for me could only tempt one bite during a 5 hr period, and a single 3" perch for my brother – another angler said he caught a couple of fish earlier during the morning, and the guy across the other side of the lake – I am not sure if he caught anything.
